Friday, October 6

Had only 3 hours sleep last night after talking with Juan and doing normal work shit. To say I’m excited is an absolute understatement. Those 6:30am rises baby.

I headed out to the water with Juan and Cristian and we jumped on the boat.

It was absolutely saturated inside from the rain, really giving creedence to the fact that our next requirement has to be to waterproof the hull.

I hadn’t seen it so soon after a big rain before and to say it really slapped home how hard we need to do this first is an understatement. Regardless of that I needed to accomplish 2 things today

  • remove the windlass to check if there a motor in it

  • remove the starter motor for the diesel engine to get it to Nelson for servicing.

Windlass

The windlass came off with a bit of sweat and blood.

It is a muir cheetah which retail in the $5,000 range brand new, so to say I got this as a steal is an absolute fucking understatement. Outstanding. It also has the engine still inside/internally in the housing, making this even better because apparently it had been repaired not too long ago.

Starter Motor

We ended up pulling the starter engine out too. Took us about 1.5 hours and a lot of strength, but we did it. I don’t really have any footage of this, but this is a lesson I need to take away to be more diligent with my filming, including I guess the camera setups.

Battery was disconnected in the bilge šŸ˜…

The Deck

Going forward I am going to keep the boat clean and organised at the end of every day. You need to shut the site down properly, put your tools away and do all of the boring administration type jobs. The mental clarity it gives is really second to none.

Honestly, just the cleanliness of the whole thing is remarkably soothing for the brain.

Future Plans

Content Work

I’ve been making more progress with Phoenix and Elixir, which is annoyingly slow but this is challenge I signed up for. I’m convinced it is better than doing another fucking react and node system, so I just need to forge ahead ignoring all the bullshit.
